Everyone Should Have Access To Clean Water From A Water Filter

 

Healthy, clean water should be everyone's right. With the increase in pollution in recent years and the lack of clean drinking water, now seems like the best time to invest in a water filter. A water filter is used to remove impurities from contaminated water using a fine physical barrier, a chemical process, or a biological process.

How do water filters work?

Any water filtration is majorly divided into two categories – physical filtration and chemical filtration. Both of the filtration systems work in the following way:

Physical Filtration- Straining water using a sieve, a thin gauze, or a mesh cloth to remove larger impurities is known as physical filtration. Physical filtration mostly removes impurities that are visible to the naked eye.

Chemical filtration- In chemical filtration, water is passed through an active material that removes impurities chemically. This method is used to remove impurities that cannot be seen via the naked eye.

Types of water filters

With the invention of technology, the market is filled with various types of water filters, all following different filtration methods. However, it can all be categorized into four major subcategories, which are,

·         Distillation- One of the oldest ways to purify water is by boiling it. In distillation, one boils water to make steam, then captures it and condenses it back into the water in a separate container. Unfortunately, distillation does not remove all the impurities; thus, it is not the most sought after water filtration method.

·         Ion exchange- Hard water consists of magnesium and calcium compounds removed on passing through an ion-based water purifier. Although the water does not get entirely purified, the removal of magnesium and calcium ions makes the water softer for consumption.

·         Activated carbon- It is the most common type of water filtration found in every household. It follows absorption, where the activated carbon absorbs the impurities and stores it in the water filter cartridges. The backdrop of this filtration method is the inability to remove hard chemicals and the need to change the filter cartridge from time to time.

·         Reverse osmosis involves forcing the water to pass through a very fine membrane at a certain pressure, resulting in water passing but the impurities being left behind.

Purified water has been made accessible to many people given the low cost and low space, requiring ones launched. If one does not have enough space for a large water filter, one can opt for an under sink water filter system.
